The Benefits of Standing At Your Desk.

We all know sitting too much can be really bad for your health. Studies have found that people who sit for long periods have an increased risk of getting all kinds of nasty conditions that will ultimately shorten life expectancies, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and even dementia. A combination of these symptoms is often referred to as ‘sitting disease’. Part-reason for this is that sitting all the time burns very few calories, and many studies have linked it to weight gain, obesity, and cellular degradation. Backache, neck ache, carpal tunnel, and headaches are issues that arise from sitting for too long with poor posture.

As more people are working at desks from home, at makeshift work stations for the majority of the day, this problem is getting worse. So what can you do about it? Well, STAND of course!

Standing at your desk, or working at a ‘standing desk’ is becoming ever more popular as people become aware of the health benefits as well as the risks of sitting. Standing while working, even for just 30 minutes at a time (4 hours a day or more) can have a major impact on your health and body, and it’s not difficult to do if you have the right equipment. Sit-stand desks, sometimes known as standing desks or height-adjustable desks, are all the rage and make it very easy to change posture throughout the day while working. Check out our friends who make standing desks at Ergotherapy.
